    WW1 Binoculars and Luger Markings

    Hi guys,
These belong to a friend. He is seeking advice on the meanings of the markings on these 3 items. Any help would be appreciated please? Thanks! Markings.jpg

You have three items that were once part of the Schützen-[Füsilier]-Regiment 108. This was a premier Saxonian unit. The M.G.A.12.43. marking lined out was from the Maschinen-Gewehr-Abteilung Nr. 12, also a Saxon unit.

Really nice individual pieces and together almost beyond belief! Really detailed histories of the 108th in WWI are available perhaps not simply by a drive by superficial internet search that now seems to substitute for true historical research but it’s out there in print. I would suspect that some Australian unit(s) had extensive engagement with this regiment and it would be fascinating to uncover this.

i suppose the purist “advanced” serious collector must consider every unit marked piece as post factory altered but I say you can send them my way anytime!

i also say that the unit stamp is more useful by a factor of maybe 1000x in associating a real history of the item than a so called capture paper, which usually is pretty much near worthless in establishing any real pre 45 pedigree of any item, but seems very prized ( for some reason) by most collectors

Many thanks guys. These items were apparently brought back to New Zealand after WW1 so any help with information on the 108th and where they fought would be much appreciated by the owner. Thanks again!
