    Question re: Feldgrau Tunic Button

I am researching feldgrau gray enlisted and officers tunics and have a question regarding the buttons:

Would an M1910 (or M1910/15) uniform from a Bavarian, Hessen, or Sachsen unit always have corresponding tunic buttons?

Was it possible that units from one of the non-Prussian states have a tunic with Prussian buttons as they were the dominant state?

    I appreciate your help.

In my experience, Bavarian pre Bluse type “tunics” always have the rampant lion buttons. The other states will always have some form of crown button although the precise details of the crown can vary between a few states. I’ve only been fooling with imperial feldgrau for about 45 years so I have a lot to learn. I don’t know how rigidly the states maintained variations of the crown buttons but generally Saxony maintained the most state specific features outside of the kingdom of Bavaria of course.

I hear ya there! The more I learn the less I know when it comes to imperial feldgrau - a matrix of variations that only gets more complicated with further study.

Yes you said it better than I did. I now know enough about it to know there is a lot that I don’t know. I have run into a lot of tunics (and overcoats, caps and other items) that were fully original and never altered but do not exactly meet the regulations in one respect or more. Many of these were contract items and not private made. The latter would be more understandable.
