Help with WWI German Visor Cap

    Hello,

Can someone tell me something about this visor hat? Is it; Prussian, Bavarian, officer or NCO, etc. I was offered this hat at a better then fair price so I bought it only knowing that it was a WWI era German visor.

    Thanks,
    John

Here is a pic of the inside. There are no other marking that I can find.

I think it is a Prussian Infantry (red band) officer (raised cockades) hat.

The Kokarden are reversed. The Reichskokarde should be on top. I don't recognize the other one unless it's a Württemberg with the black scratched off the paper center. I do seem to remember a Belgian one with that color combination, though. As Paul said, the red band and piping make it Infantrie, but the Kokarden have been replaced.

            Cap

            John,

From the exterior it does not particularly look like a officer's quality cap. However, the markings on the interior lining look like initials stamped with some gothic style letters, which would indicate to me that it might have been privately purchased and therefore could conceivably be an officer's piece. How's that for a run-on sentence!

Regarding it being a WWI era cap, yes it could be, but more likely it was made before the war.
