I am looking for some information on this uniform. This is my Great Grandfathers brother, Wilhelm Dethlefsen. Old myth is that he was in the Imperial Guard. This appears to be an infantry uniform? Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Christian,
Not the Garde. But it makes a great story! He was with Infanterie-Regt. von Manstein (1.Schleswigsches) Nr.84 garrisoned in Schleswig u. Hadersleben as part of the VIII Armee Korps. he is wearing what appears to be a pre-1895 Waffenrock as it has the larger buttons. Straps were white with red 84. I think (?) I see Corporal's rank disks on the side of his collar? You can see some examples and learn a bit about the uniform he is wearing, along with a few details for his regt, at this lin>> http://www.kaisersbunker.com/gtp/
