    Helmet question

Guys, I am not an Imperial collector, but here in Afghanistan, many of the bazaars have WW1 German helmet shells for sale. All the ones I have seen are minus liners and chin straps, some have residues of paint, some have been scrubbed clean, ect. Basic relic condition.
What would be the value of these to a WW1 collector?
    Regards,
    Johnnie

    WW1 Helmets in Afghanistan

Hi, Yes I have seen a number of these show up on Ebay too. I bought one from a US soldier for about $250 with complete liner.
There are some that would bring more money - M18 Cut Out. This is a later WW1 helmet that has the rim come up over the ears. I have seen some of these brought back too. LOOK FOR THESE, THEY ARE RARE...
The regular one will go for $100 - $175 with no liner. Good luck and let me know if you find one of these...

        Helmets

        Johnnie,

Helmets as you describe, with no original paint and no liner are not of much interest to helmet collectors. I think your market would be reenactors, who might be interested in restoring one for such purposes.

I'm still trying to find one with the badge. I have an Afghan used one with their replace liner and paint. These cost about $300.

Yes, look for the Afghani badge, if remember right it is triangle, it is rare to find still in place!

I've seen a few junker helmets on eBay with the badge. I was outbid on one and missed another auction. I'd prefer a complete helmet with the badge...but if I can find the badge on a junked helmet I'd just put the badge on my helmet as this is a pretty clean example. The badges come off very easily from what I've seen.

Thanks for the head's up. I actually did win one of those...the badge is very nice. I had read these badges were only used for parades, which is why they look like the pins have been bent a million times. As such I didn't feel it was too wrong to remove the badge to restore my other helmet.

It just seems so complete now.
