    Help with Strirnpanzer

    Hi guys.
Just wanting to know if there's any good references with detailed information on Stirnpanzers. I've recently purchased one & it appares to be pretty good as far as shape & wieght are concerned although it had been re painted. There was no evidence of any maker markings or date & the strap although very old & dry , was stiched on rather than riveted. I have the Haselgrove / Radovic book which has a couple of good examples in it but I was wanting to know if there are variations in the lug slots, strap fixings etc, & was it likely that some were produced with out any maker details. Appreciate your help

    Mike,

I don't know if I can help you much, but I can tell you that every original Stirnpanzer I have seen over the years had a maker mark. I'm not saying an original one has to have markings, just that every one I have seen that was a good one had them. Also, I would be suspect of stitched retaining straps. Originals were riveted, to my knowledge. There are several books out there that discuss these, but none that I know of that go into great depth.

    Regards,
    Chip

Thanks for your reply Chip. I think your probibly right about the the maker markings as the Germans seemed to be very particular about marking everything. I had thought that the strap attachment may have varied over the years as they did with the M16 - M18 & Austrian Helmets based on weakness or ease of production etc. But once again its difficult to find any comprehensive study on Stirnpanzers that shows variations in developement in the short time they were produced.

      Cheers
      Mike
