A Rare EK2 Equivalent! Anhalt Friedrich Cross

I have one of these anhalt crosses display mounted (2 pieces of ribbon side by side on a piece of card with the medal below,not the most professional job ive seen but it looks ok from the front)but the ribbon looks slightly different..almost the same green as the medal bar example but the white stripes on each piece of ribbon are much wider..It came with an information card,which reads"Herzog Friedrich von Anhalt Kreuz 1914-18 on the Herzogin Witwe Friederike ribbon for her 90th year 1901.It also says "Probaly for A.D.C.

I know very little about imperial wards,does it make sense,why a ribbon for someones 90th year in 1901,would be on a 1914-18 medal?

Also,what is an A.D.C?

Can't tell exactly without a scan. The Duchess-widow's medal of 1901 was a green ribbon with a silver metallic stripe near each side, so that's not right either. A.D.C. = "Aide de Camp," but again, nothing about that card is right.

hi daniel,
the ribbon looks exactly the same(same green,and stripe thickness looks identical)but mine looks like they are white.
Is it possible they could of faded or lost colour.?

I had a a 3rd reich war merit medal,on which the ribbon had gone from red to a light orange.


Or perhaps its the old wrong ribbon with the matching wrong description.

Normally on that ribbon the threads are silvered.
Maybe You have a Saxon Albert ribbon on Your cross.

almost spot on daniel.Mine looks a slightly lighter green but not much difference. The ribbon has been definately descibed incorrectly.The display mount has been done by a collector and not a proffessional mounter .No doubt he did the description card as well.I had a look at the ribbon list at wehrmacht awards info section,and it definately looks like a Kingdom of saxony ribbon.

Its definatley not connected with the widow,and does saxony have anything to do with Anhalt?

Reference the cross,upon close inspection,it is diestruck(evidence of sheer marks on the inner surfaces) with evidence of hand finishing on the outer arms(light file marks which cross horizontally across the outer edges).It also appears to be constructed of brass or bronze.

Any info on the construction of these awards,much appreciated!
Aslo what is the standard ribbon?I think im going to have to find one now!

group of one man

After a long search for I've found an interesting foto of three ribbon bars from one man. A very colorful combination with the Anhalt cross for non-combatants and EK2 , Friedrich-August-cross for combatants.

Hi Daniel,

the last ribbon is the austrian Franz Joseph order on peacetime ribbon. It's a nice mix of combatants and non-combatants ribbon, I'll show you more soon.

A little chance to identify.
