    Imperial war flag, for opinions

    Hi.

First of all, I was not sure if this post belongs here or to the wehrmacht flag section but..
What are your thought on this piece. Imo the eagle has nice details, cross is narrow as it should be, attachment strings look ok. Any red flags? Help would be really appreciated.

The flag seems unmarked and is 202cm X 115cm

    Thanks in advance.

Personally, I like it. Its in fantastic shape (red flag?). Eagle, globe, scepter details look good. Stitching looks good to me. I couldnt tell you if its Imperial or Third reich though.

This type of flag is Kaiserliche Marine War Ensign, used 1903–1919.

Also widely used post-WW 1 for various veterans events by the Stahlhelm bund.

Yes, possibly at veteran events etc. But not as offcial navy flag. Imperial eagle was removed from the War Ensign already in the Weimar Republic. The Third Reich flag was with swastika.

Anyway, the imperial flag could be produced also after 1918 for different commemorative purposes.

              regards

The entire reason as to why this thread was started by member "NikiT" was to determine if the flag was manufactured during the WW1 era years, the 1920's, or during the 1930's era. Am I correct in understanding this?

You may want to consider posting the flag in the section "Flag, Pennant, and Standarte Forum" subsection found in the "Wehrmacht Uniforms and Equipment" section found above this section of the forum. Member "Old Flags" will give his expert opinion as to when he believes the time period of manufacture was for this flag. Maybe he will also see it located here.

It is an excellent looking flag, regardless of if it was made during WW1, the 1920's era, or the 1930's era. Congratulations!

                  Best Regards,

                  Alan

                    Thanks Alan!

Actually the reason for this thread was that I wanted to be sure there is nothing wrong with the flag and to get as much info about it as possible of course. As it seems the flag is original and since I collect german artifacts from 1914-1945 it fits my collection better than well. Of course would be super to be sure if it its ww1 weimar or ww2 made.

IMO the IKF in question is 3rd Reich era,
based on construction, and stated size.
See WAF t=978651 for WW1 sizes and
                      construction, & WW1 header markings.
