The Bronzene Militärverdienstmedaille "Signum Laudis" is not of the official award type, not being present the engraver's signature "KAUTSCH" under the emperor's bust.
The quality and design of the medal, allow me to say that most probably it was struck by Petzl, Vienna. An uncommon, interesting variation.

Thank you for your comment.
I noticed that the engraver’s signature is missing. My first thought was that it might be a cast copy of the original. I have never seen one without the signature.
Why would they have used this medal instead of the official award type one?
Thank you,
Mike

The Signum Laudis is not a cast piece, but an interesting struck, private purchase one, as said, most probably made by Messrs. Petzl, Vienna, around 1918-1930.
Best wishes,
