zähringer löwen ritterkreuz 1sr class I purchased today.

    Hi all
Here I got a very nice piece of zähringer löwen ritterkreuz in gold

The style of the glass and it's holding position looks very old style, maybe a jewelry made? or simply earlier style?

No visible maker mark on it.

    Thanks

    Hi Eric,

That's a nice, early looking piece, I'm guessing mid-19th century. The ribbon of course is not correct, but a very nice piece.

I'm interested to hear what the Baden collectors have to say.

When I collected Imperial, I focused particularly on this order and it has always been my favorite.

I owned one exactly the same as this except that mine was red gold rather than yellow gold. I agree that it's at least c. 1850 and possibly earlier. I think the ribbon could be original and the yellow-orange stripes faded and the ribbon probably got wet at some point and the green color bled into the stripes. Color dies before the 1860s were organic and not color-fast and could easily fade and bleed. Also, the earlier pieces have ribbons with stripes that are more yellow than those from WWI.

                Hello,

I think the ribbon might? be correct, but just faded and perhaps the color off due to the photographic conditions. The only way to tell would be to peek underneath where ~170 years of UV radiation have not altered the original color. The green is correct, but what color were the stripes originally????

                Best regards,
