    1813 EK2 opinions please

    Hi Guys,

I got this one through which looks really nice and original with a correct core pattern I think? Please would you be so kind as to give me your thoughts on originality and period of manufacture?

    Many thanks,

    Patrick

I think it has a good probability of being a good one.
I like the frame and the finish to the core. The only thing that gives
me some concern is the crown. To me, it just looks a bit off.

You might want to do a search through the "Holy Grail club" threads
to compare it against others accepted as original.

Thanks Greg, I did just that and found this one owned by Streptile from the 2016 Holy Grail owners club thread- appears to be the same core?

This example with provenance appears to be an exact match for the core- this one apparently is one of the earliest produced according to the discussion thread-

So would mine be an early awarded cross?

        Many thanks,

        Patrick

Looks like a good serif cored cross with a stepped core.
Not the earliest ones, but one of the "earlier" in my opinion.

            Just an observation,
but to me, the crown on Patrick's example looks odd.
Maybe it's just the pictures or there was an issue in the casting process
but the shape is off. It looks lopsided. Like the left hand outer row of
beads is different from those on the right side. It also looks like the jewels in
            the sweat band are different.

That one is known to be early not because of the core type but because of the construction of the frame. I agree with Dansson's verdict on your cross: good, early, awarded, but not the earliest type. In my opinion probably 1815 - .
              Best regards,
              Streptile

Hello and sorry for boosting this thread with an additional question for a different item - but the title seems to offer this opportunity
What do you think about the specimen on the attached pictures?
To me the surface seems to be oddly smooth for a casted core, even if you disregard the additional laquer that seems to be on it...
                  Is this a real one?
                  Regards

Other than the "8" and the crown details, what else gives this one away?

For example the frame, painted and bubbling surface.

                            Thank you for your judgement!
The cross will be in the next auction of Hermann Historica...
                            be cautious!

The only thing I think the cross that started this thread has a replaced ring, color looks a little different(maybe neusilber) and looks like it have been cut.
