    Pour le Merite Rothe

    Hello,

    i have found this Pour le Merite for sale, the seller described is as made by Rothe. I don't know alot about these medals but I have read Rothe produced alot postwar till the 80s,

    I am hoping for some opinions about this cross !

      Thanks for your opinion ! Any idea about the time period this cross was made ? I am always a bit scared (but also interested!) by Rothe because of there postwar production

        As for a time period - hard to say for sure but definitally post WW1. I have an earlier one that has much more detailed eagles, etc...
        IMO even post WW2 is likely. Later made 1960+ Rothe my PLM‘s look different though.

            Hello,

            I see that the reverse of the suspension loop is struck with marks: good pictures of them, could much better help to determine when the piece was made.

            If the rectangular one at right bears a "CFR", this definitely says that the piece was made after 1918.


            Rothe was able to produce orders until the mid 70s.

            Older Rothe PLMs (let's say, made between 1915 - 1920) are enamelled with a darker shade of blue.
