German Saber?? Very Old

Is this a German saber? It has a single unstopped fuller and the only marking looks German.

Austrian Saber M1836

Hi Cliff,

It looks like you have an Austrian Infantry Saber M1836. I attached a picture from one of my reference books.

You can still partially read the manufacturer's mark or at least where is was made.

WIEN = Vienna, Austria

Do you also have the matching scabbard?

Mike, Thats a great help, thank you so much. I dont have the scabbard. I looked them up based on the info you gave me. The ones I found appeared to have a button on the ring for attaching in scabbard. Do you think this may be an earlier model of just a maker variation?

I believe you are talking about the button seen in the picture below I took from my reference book. You are right it is just a variation of the M1836. Best, Mike
