    Sword markings question.

I've had this awhile and never noticed the marking on the cross guard AC/G
It's an ACS Alexander Coppel made sword cut into a fighting knife, very well done!
I assume it began life as an Infantry sword due to the straight blade and that the markings are from it's 'longer days'.

I think that is/was an official purchase NCO sword with a G date code for 1935.

      Hadn't thought of that!

Clever idea of a "G" code indicating 1935, but I think it's earlier, Weimar. If it's a G code why would Coppel use their full name trademark on the ricasso, and not S/173?
It's got the Imperial style inspection marks that suggest a regimental sword rather than private purchase. Rather nice conversion to trench knife.

I believe this was an NCO sabre from the 1930's, it was Heer property rather than a private purchase piece. I've seen several of them posted on the forum but could only turn up a couple threads by doing a search, they show some by Carl Eickhorn with similar markings. I suspect a GI converted it into a knife.

I must defer to y'all in the sword itself. If G.I. done, it is very good craftsmanship. Occasionally better 'soldier set's can be traced to having been done ship board where they had access to better tools.
