I agree. The ribbon is a modern reproduction.
You can tell by the fact that one edge is looped while the other edge
is knotted.

IMO the ribbon is good. The edges are " knotted" on both sides (your description) as you said. One of the characteristics of a false ribbon is one " knotted" edge on one site of the ribbon. But IMO there was a manufacturer in 1914/1918, who has made this type of ribbon, with "knotted "edges on both sides.

I have some pictures of those types of ribbon. One picture is from a page from Wernitz, the Iron Cross 1813-1870-1914. I have seen those ribbons before and have some more myself. I was always wondering why nobody noticed / described this before. Also could not find a thread about this. But then again, its my opinion and I am very curious what you think of this?

At first sight i'm not a fan of the ribbon either.
Besides the edge, also the stitching looks rather poor.
Combine that with the fact that it looks brand new...
Most of the original ribbons i have seen develop a creme white colour.

I m also not the biggest fan of those single non-comb. ribbons, but i agree in Green`s opinion - i think not all of the ribbons which doesn`t have those loops on the edges are modern.
I have seen Spangen of the 1930/40s years without those loops and of other
decorations - and i liked those pieces.

It´s always a 50 - 50 chance...

I`ve had 3 of that Frackspangen in my collection:
One of Sedlatzek and 2 of Godet, Berlin

The Godets are sleeping in N.Y.C. - if i am right.

I expected some more reactions, but than again..........it is not Textbook

I would love to own a Single parade mounted EK II with a Sedlatzek label attached
But the ones with a label and in a good condition are hard to find and single Frackspanges are 10 x harder to find!
