WWI proud Bavarian Veteran medal bar

    Dear forumites,

I am quite proud to show you my latest addition to my medal bar collection: a complete set of a Bavarian WWI Veteran.

As you can see there is a all you can wear type medal bar of the late 20s and a post 1934 medal bar with the allowed decoration to be worn. In addition to that you can see 2 Knopflochschnallen (for civil attire) and a Feldspange (ribbon bar).

The commemorative 22. Bay. Inf. Regt. Cross is quite new to me, although I think to have seen it somewhere before. It is not mentioned on Detlev's newest catalogue, although he has a very detailed section of pre-1939 unofficial Weimer era awards. All the clasps are there. A experienced collector told me that the clasp "Warschau" is quite rarely seen on such commerative WWI veterans decoration.

Enjoy the pictures... here's the case... so presented to me by an old Bavarian guy who approched me during the show in Stuttgart as he saw my brother buying a medal bar from a dealer. He asked me if we were interested in purchasing another bar... we said... of course, if what you have is interesting...

And voila the inside... we were quite surprised as he opened the case... already the case from the outside looked quite promising, but what was inside topped our imagination.

Here's an overall picture of it.

    Ciao,

    Claudio

Claudio-- this is a FANTASTIC find-- the very first time I have ever seen BOTH "before" and "after" MEDAL bars...

since most people disassembled their old ones to make the newer versions.

A matching ribbon bar and two lapel bows TOO...

                  absolutely great!!!

Could someone tell me about the breast star device that's there too. Is that some type of veteran's association award or something? The reason I ask is a friend of mine, who collected WW2 stuff, had one and he gave it to me and I really know nothing about it. I've got a miniature that goes with it too.

@ Mike: Here's the description of the medals:

Interesting that this decoration was hung on the Bavarian DA ribbon.

Weimar vet's decorations AND Bavarian. Doesn't get much better than that in my book.

Claudio, great group for the right one... But I would say that the bavarian cross for the 22.Inf Rgt is in the wrong place... there should be the bavarian service medal, this cross seems to be a very very private purchase for bavarian regiments there were special regiment crosses with unit bars on it, I think you know them...

@Mike: The Hamburger Feldehrenzeichen is something inofficial like a "Vets organization award" but one of the nice ones because of the interesting design - but not too uncommon. complete set would be: the breast star, the stickpin mini, the chain mini, award document, award case.

Unfortunately not too many people with big closed boxes are crossing my way...
