Godet wide frame with interesting core surface

Hello,

I have get this nice Godet wide frame EK2 and I'm a little bit courious about the iron core surface...

It's not painted... my first thought was that it was lacquered... but it looks a bit also like a blued core (my personal gun has the same looking surface).

What do you think?

The cross is original Godet wideframe.
IMO it is painted, just the areas of paintloss are retouched with gun blueing liquid.
