    1870 ic 2nd class

    Hi All
I've been offered an 1870 IC 2nd class . It appears original being the right dimensions, magnetic core, etc. The only problem i have with it is, that the frame is silver or nickle plated brass rather than solid silver .
Should all 1870 IC's have silver frames, could a plated brass frame indicate a fake or a later made piece.
I've just started collecting iron crosses, and am a bit out of my comfort zone with this cross. Any info would be appreciated .

    Cheers
    Graham

I was simply asking a question as to whether a contemporary 1870 IC should have a silver frame or not

Some 1870s made by AWS ( A.Werner & Sohn) had non silver frames.
You would be able to tell one made by AWS by the shape of the crown.

        Here is one of mine---

          Beautiful AWS cross !

I have a very similar AWS jubilee cross but on a non-combatants ribbon.

Nice cross, Alex, with matching AWS oakleaves.

AWS, S&L and even A-type core can be seen with non-silver frames.
But some fakes can be seen with alloy frames as well.
So it is not the best criterium to tell good 1870 cross from bad one.

In the case of the Jubilee Cross /the one we're discussing /, and not the original granted, is possible that the frame is of another metal than silver
