EK1 800 & Ernst August War Merit Cross 1st Class

    Good day folks

Here are 2 crosses, an 800 marked EK1 and Ernst August War Merit Cross 1st Class.

I hope both are original as they came from the estate of an Erich Gehrmann, who served in the First World War in IR 158 as a sergeant and in WW2 as an officer. But one of the IABs is a copy so I'd like to know if these are the real thing. If the 800 is real any ideas of the maker.

I think the EK is OK but have doubts about the EA Cross.

    All comments welcome.

    Many thanks

The Ernst August Cross appears to have the Meybauer obverse design but the details look soft. It could just be the pics or it could be heavily worn. The reverse set up has been replaced.

            Hello Don

Compared to yours mine looks very different. A concern is what look like casting holes in the area of the EA. Having seen these enlarged photos there seem to be quite a lot of blemishes.

There could be evidence of the original fitting just above the replacement but hard to tell.

Thanks for your help and observations.

Those pics are much better. This is a cast fake. The remains of the hardware you see on the reverse is from where they removed it from the original badge they used for the mold.

Thanks Don, Under the better pictures it is clear that this is not a good one.

You help has been much appreciated.

                All the best
