Nobody any thoughts on the this fine looking soldier.
I don’t see any reason to doubt it is a period piece and an excellent quality bust.

The fakes are really good, too good and I actually left one on the table not long ago that was probably good. This looks o.k from the photos, their not all that desirable nor do they command big money but their nice accent pieces. I think your o.k.

Has this type of bronze bust actually been faked or is your comment a generalisation of all military busts?

I ask this because I have been unable to find a similar example on the internet which would probably not be the case if they were being reproduced.

Heroic busts have been and are heavily faked. So this type, mainly the smaller casts in general. Plenty of other types too in the desk size, but these here in particular can be difficult.

The faked bronze (usually brass with a dark finish) busts I've seen offered have exhibited such poor craftsmanship that IMO anyone who has handled originals would not be fooled.

Thanks guys for all the responses.

Steve C brought the bronze bust around to my house yesterday and I bought it.

The quality is superb and the condition extremely good considering it was made in the 1920/30's.

I emailed photos to Helmut Weitze and he confirmed it was an original period-made piece although he hadn't come across the maker before.

A google search revealed that he was a sculptor who designed war memorials and also produced AH porcelain busts.

That is a fantastic looking piece (visually I mean, I don't have any knowledge about the authenticity, but it appears it has been given the proverbial "thumbs up"). What do these usually run? I would like one like this for my own collection for my helmet display.

Rolf. I have pm’d you with the price I paid Steve.

Incidentally, the bronze is larger that it looks in the photos measuring 280mm/ 11” high.

A very nice piece. I disagree with them not being desirable. if you can find a good example as this then they make a good addition to your collection.

Stan, I do not know and I do not want to know how much you paid. The quality is excellent. Reviews - "quite strange in such nice condition.. no scratches.. no damage..." it's like "The Chronicles of Narnia"
