I believe this is a common fake. The enamel is likely cold acrylic, judging from the look of it. The 1333 date is missing the 1.
Thanks for you comment
I could not find any good info about these "common fakes", maybe someone have some pictures of these fakes to compare?
IMO there are also genuine German made ones with missing the 1 on the date.
You see these on ebay.de all the time from some dubious sellers.
DonĀ“t get me wrong, but I am not quite convinced yet, that it is a fake. As you now there were made a lot of Gallipoli stars by different makers from WWI until WWII.
I hear "you see these all the time" and these are common fakes, please show me some pictures ......maybe I am not searching right, but I cannot find a same piece on E-bay or on the web!
However I find some pieces in a book of mine, with the same needle system and one without the 1 in the number!
Looking at the close-ups, it is 100% clear that the enamel is cold acrylic. The tell tale signs are the obvious plastic look, apparent unevenness of the surface, the discolored, blackened edges where it touches the metal and the rough, uneven edges due to shrinkage when the acrylic dries. Putting aside everything else, this points to a fake without question.
Glass enamel just doesn't look like this, or act like this when applied, fired and finished.
