    Militarpass: 5.Kompagnie 2.Garde-Regiment zu Fuss

Showing here a document to a soldier, whose name I decipher as being Franz Leonard Mickartz, a Prussian born in Aachen who enlisted on 10 April 1901. If I read things correctly, he was released from duty on 20 September 1903. His number in the "Truppenstammrolle" for 1901 was 83. Also shown is a nice document called the "Fuhrungszeugnis" confirming his good conduct while in service from 1901-1903.

Again, if I read this correctly, he re-enlisted on 07 April 1909 in the "Landwehr 1. Aufgebots".

Also shown is an award document - "Besitzzeugnis" - confirming that he received the following award: "Landwehr-Dienstauszeichnung zweite Klasse" on 18 December 1913 and confirmed by document dated 18 April 1914.

There are numerous other entries in the Pass, such as: "Besondere militarische Ausbildung"; "Bekleidungsstucken"; and "Zusatze zu den Personalnotizen".

Of particular interest to me, as a Canadian, is the "Urlaubsbescheinigung" (Leave approval) for him issued on 05 Mai 1913 approving leave for him in Canada until 04 Mai 1915.

I hope that this will be of interest to Forum members. All feedback and comments will be appreciated.

    Regards,

    John

Thank you for the elucidation, Gerdan. I often find it difficult to read the old German script.
              Cheers,
