    1813 ek2

    Hi everyone,

I'm curious of your opinion on this 1813 EK2.

I'm new to these, but it looks like a few characteristics aren't adding up for a real one.

    Thanks for your help!

What looks off to you? At first glance, I kind of like it.

As I said, I’m very new, so probably wrong

When I looked up those that were given the thumbs up, the way the core sat in the frame was a bit different with this core looking a bit softer. Also the beading, but again, I am still learning. I could be over scrutinizing.

The last item I thought was a little odd was the suspension ring connection to the frame. But I’m still looking up photos.

This one is fine but is not an award type and should not command the same price as one.

It's called the "bent stem" type. The square lug is typical but not always present on this type.

In my opinion it was made as a replacement piece certainly later than the so-called "inheritance series" (1830s) EKs, but before the Unification Wars (1864-71).
        Best regards,

Trevor is right, nice Bent stem type. Imo the nicest 1813 core.

1813ers look odd to most collectors of later eras, as they are category of their own.
It is because most people collect Iron crosses backwards - starting with WW2, then slowly "discovering" earlier eras.
In fact, from chronological point of view, this is the real Iron cross and all others (later era ones) look a bit odd.

I prefer early cores but 1813s crosses are all awesome
