Can not quite tell from the pics - but am not immediately convinced that this is original (carefully formulated). Is there a list of names for others who served in that company and is your guy listed there as wel? Is the top a more piece construction? Is the name of the owner painted on the Stein - looks more like printed (if that is the correct term) on it. Which years of service are on it? Better pics would help.

I would say better pics are needed. The lid looks a little too dark inside. The buttons and other smaller details should be hand painted. It's kind of hard to tell from these pics.

Yes, tough to tell from these photos. I am not fond of it, and it appears to look like the copies from Germany from the 80s. I think I still have one somewhere.

I would not buy it. I am leaning towards copy.

It's got all the characteristics of a modern copy. One, for instance, is the list of soldiers on either side of the handle. These should all be hand painted. One should be able to feel the raised letters of each name. These are all transfers underneath the final glaze.
