German States EK2 Equivalents for Junior Officers: 2-Place Medal Bar Sets

    Hello,

I have not been very active on here for the past year or so, since I began working a new job.

I have, however, been busy assembling a set of 2-Place medal bars with the EK2 and the German State EK2 Equivalents for Junior Officers. 2017 was a very good year for me in my search, as I found 11-different 2-place medal bars for this collection. Actually I found 10-different 2-place medal bars, and a Hohenzollern 4-place medal bar with Hindenburg Cross, since the possibility of finding the Princely House Order of Hohenzollern, Honor Cross 3rd Class with Swords in a 2-Place Medal Bar with an EK2 on it anytime soon is not a very high probability, needless to say.

Three of these 2-place sets I have not seen available on the market for several years. These 2-place sets are often times very difficult to find, as compared to their larger and later cousins assembled with the Hindenburg Cross and with either more Imperial State awards, and/or 3rd Reich awards.

The Lippe Detmold example is simply a single War Merit Cross that someone had removed from a medal bar, and it is displayed next to a single mount EK2. For now it is a "filler", until I can find a real 2-place medal bar for Lippe Detmold.

I also have a nicer Meckelenburg-Schwerin 2-place mount coming in the mail on Tuesday, that is far better than what I have currently shown in the collection photos.

I would still like to find the following in 2-Place Medal Bars, each with the EK2:

    7. Lippe-Detmold: War Merit Cross
    18. Schaumburg Lippe: Cross for Loyal Service
    19. Schwarzburg: Princely Schwarzburg Honor Cross 3rd Class with Swords
    20. Waldeck: Princely Waldeck Merit Cross 4th Class with Swords

Here's a list of the EK2 Equivalents of the German States for Junior Officers:

    1. Anhalt: Friedrich Cross
    2. Baden: Order of the Zähringen Lion, Knight 2nd class with Swords
    3. Bavaria: Military Merit Order, 3rd Class with Swords
    4. Brunswick: War Merit Cross 2nd Class
    5. Hesse: General Honor Decoration "For Bravery"
    6. Hohenzollern: Princely House Order of Hohenzollern, Honor Cross 3rd
    Class with Swords
    7. Lippe-Detmold: War Merit Cross
    8. Mecklenburg-Schwerin: the Military Merit Cross 2nd Class
    9. Mecklenburg-Strelitz: the Cross for Distinction in War, "Brave and Loyal"
    10. Oldenburg: Friedrich August Cross 2nd Class
    11. Prussia: Iron Cross 2nd Class
    12. Reuss: Princely Reuss Honor Cross 3rd Class with Swords
    13. Saxony: Albrecht Order, Knight 2nd class with Swords
    14. Saxe-Altenburg: Ducal Saxe-Ernestine House Order, Knight 2nd class with
    Swords
    15. Saxe-Coburg-Gotha: Ducal Saxe-Ernestine House Order, Knight 2nd class
    with Swords
    16. Saxe-Meiningen: Honor Cross for Merit in War
    17. Saxe-Weimar-Eisenach: House Order of Vigilance or the White Falcon,
    Knight 2nd class with Swords
    18. Schaumburg Lippe: Cross for Loyal Service
    19. Schwarzburg: Princely Schwarzburg Honor Cross 3rd Class with Swords
    20. Waldeck: Princely Waldeck Merit Cross 4th Class with Swords
    21. Württemberg: Friedrich Order, Knight 2nd class with Swords (or the
Golden Military Merit Medal, but that's much harder to find as it was made
    of gold throughout the war)
    22. Bremen: Hanseatic Cross
    23. Hamburg: Hanseatic Cross
    24. Lübeck: Hanseatic Cross

    Best Regards,

    Alan

I almost forgot to thank Trevor once again, for selling me the Ducal Saxe-Ernestine House Order, Knight 2nd class with Swords, after the S.O.S. He motivated me to get busy filling in the gaps on this collection, starting back in March. Thanks Trevor!

        Best Regards,

        Alan

          Hi ALAN,

Absolutely fantastic. You have 7 I do not have and would really like to have in my collection with the Ernestiner and Weisse Falcke being my greatest envies - with Waldeck and Strelitz in tow. Kudos - well done. Thanks for posting!

Wow! That's a nice focused collection, it isn't that easy to find these bars with just an EK2 and an equivalent of the states that hasn't got a Hindenburg Cross on the end.

Wonderful display if decorations. Makes me want to shift back to medal bars for a bit.
I try to collect singles when I can but your mounted groups display better IMO

Very nice collection and indeed hard to find medal bars without the Hindenburg cross! But that keeps collecting more interesting. If its easy to find ......what is the challenge
