1870 EK2 Bar w/20 Yr LSC and red back

I recently picked this up. It has the following awareds:

    1. 1870 EK2 non-combattants ribbon
    2. Red Eagle Order 4th Class
    3. Crown Order 4th Class
    4. 20 Year Landwehr Long Service Cross

It has a red backing for the Army. What is interesting is that there is no 25 year clasp so the guy either did not bother or was out by 1897. Any quess on the rank or service type, i.e. administrator, Army Officer?

Very beautiful medal bar!!! I think he was a Hauptmann der Landwehr oder Reserve or maybe a beamter with the equivalent rank.

Because there is no 1870 Campaign Medal, I would take this to be a RETIRED Landwehr officer who won that "white-black" EK as

            a civilian!

I was really wondering about this. I expected a 1914 EK on this bar.

Wonderful piece, John. Thanks for sharing.

                  best,
                  Gerd

                    Red Back

                    Hello,

the red colour on the back side has nothing to do with army or navy. It is mainly to sove the clothes and the color was in the most of the cases decides by the buyer of the medal bar.

Never the kless, a great bar from 1870 period with an noncombatant iron cross.

                    Kind regards from Germany

                    Walter
