German boots - original?

A friend is putting together a WWI German infantryman's display. He was in the US Army in Europe in the 1980s and got a good number of original items but has a little ways to go.

A couple weeks back, you all helped out with a shovel carrier which he bought which proved not to be German. (He returned it to the seller.)

Now these boots have come up at eBay.

Are they what the seller claims them to be?

IMO no, these are not WWI German. There are many small details that are incorrect for the specifications of WWI era marching boots.
