    Bavarian Observer badge opinions please

    Hi Guys

Please could I get some opinions on this piece? These Poellath badges are a nightmare! This one has the name spelled with a C like on the award cases.

    many thanks for any help

IMO, I don't think it is a period piece.

This item doesn't have anywhere near the quality expected with a Poellath made badge.

Agree, the lack of detail is concerning...

Not related to this badge. But can someone tell me if the C or the K is the accepted marker mark for poellath? I assume they are C as per the cases?
          Many thanks

You can find original badges with both C and K. With regards to etuis Ive always seen them with C

C.Poellath tends to be (but not always) marked on later badges as opposed to Karl Pollath generally seen on earlier pieces.Ferg.

This one ,alas ,seems to be one of those that flood the market and are questionable. A good way of telling these at a glance is the right hand ribbon bow at base. Where it curls round to meet the knot there is a flat section ( without the riven/rippled effect) . They are all like that ,pilot ,observer ,retired and air gunner. None of them good ! Ferg.

Is Carl and Karl the same manufacturer?

                        The short answer....Yes.

there is larger discussion of this manufacturer and his different spellings/stamps on the GMIC forum.

The vertical prongs securing the pennant are not typical for an original period
Pollath badge either. All examples that I have been able to find have horizontal prongs.
