    AWS Jubilee EK2 for non-combatants

    Hi everyone,

I picked up this "postwar" 1870 EK2 a while ago. From my research, this should be a AWS made wide frame cross of the jubilee period - made sometime between 1895-1910 ?

    Best regards,
    Alex

Marvelous cross. You're right about what it is.

Ribbon looks just as it should too, but of course you know that

Thanks very much, it's a great addition to my "postwar collection".

I learned a lot about these crosses thanks to your research on them. You did make some very good threads on these AWS jubilee crosses. Thanks very much for it.

From what I understand, this cross in particular must be dating rather early since the "webbing" on the inner sections of the frame are still crisp. Later pieces show less detail on this frame section. Would you agree ?

Also, I believe the oaks are silver rather than just silver-plated, is this correct ?

              Thanks and best regards,
              Alex

Oh, what a lovely cross !!!

That kind of combo (AWS + Oaks + NC ribbon) is my dream

You have done a good research also - congrats !!!

Well, it should be, but I wouldn't be suprised if they are silvered.
Not all jubilee oaks are made of silver. You must check it at your local jeweler to be 100% sure!

It's hard to say based on photos alone but the oaks look silvered to me because of the yellowish undercolor. But AWS made their oakleaves in silver and also in a silvered brass alloy, so either is possible.

By the way here is the 1908 AWS catalogue with a matching piece.
