    Imperial Canteen

Not sure of the era. Would guess WWI, or earlier. Has a glass body inside a thick leather outer cover with a metal cup attached. Perhaps it might be a cavalry item from the long carrying strap? Thanks in advance.

Pre-1893 German canteen. Similar ones were carried in the Frano-Prussian War. At the time of this one's use, all Greman canteens were worn with an over-the-shoulder strap.

I thought the canteen carried during the Franco-Prussia War was the M1867 canteen, which didn't look like this one.

Is there a reference somewhere to this one?

I just found it. It is the M1882 model.
