Woe is me boys. I cannot resist temptation. Here is a interesting group of awards I just picked up (not yet delivered). Had to move quickly and am now starting to analyze. All looks well to me perhaps with the exception of the RAO and KO juxtaposed. The grouping suggest to me a Navy man or perhaps See-battalion. As with all red meat thrown into the den, what say you my learned friends?

That is quite the chain!!!
Since these were private purchase and for civilian dress, I do not think there was much regulation on which of the receiptients orders he could wear or in what order they should be worn. This guy wanted to show them all.
He has 2 versions of his MVO and the Hindenburg cross and the navy version of
the Hindenburg cross all on the same chain. I have never seen both Hindenburgs on 1 chain before.
I like it alot and I think that the navy cross is a pretty hard find in miniature.
OK now we will see if my opinions hold up or if I am way off-base.

All Hail RR and his memory synapsis! I made no such memory connection and I do pay attention (or so I thought
)! I'm glad I took a peek at the forum this morning before I began to ponder "over many a volume of forgoten lore". It is trite to say 'what are the odds?' but it does occur on this forum more than once! But how often does the historical DNA match up so nicely? Lets hope someday the entire group can be re-united. The minis came out of Italy, wonder where the bars were found?

I thought about to ask him, but i didn´t, because it seemed too strange to me. Just confirms, i have a lot to learn, even about my own collecting-field.

But i have seen two Hindenburg-crosses on a medal-bar(with X/next-of-kin), in fact i owned one at one time, but its in the collection of a member here now.

News update. Oskar Wantke rose to the rank of Generalmajor der Polizei a.D. and died November 2, 1940. Still looking for more info and, of course, a photo. I wonder if he might had gotten any other awards in the 1930's?Comment

Since he retired in early 1933, beyond the Hindenburg Cross in retirement he would not have been eligible for anything--
as seen in his medal bar and ribbon bars owned by Werner Nickel now in the link above. What you see there is what he got.
That's also why he could get away with the 1920s pieces on the end of his/your chain that were REPLACED by the Hindenburg Cross--
he was a civilian, and not under strict regulations not to be naughty in unauthorized wear.Comment
