Umkarton and Case with EK1.

I'd like to show you my latest piece that arrived today, comments welcome!

Early cast core EK1 from K.A.G. with it's components (Umkarton and mid-war wooden case by Schwarz). The EK1 has as well a very shallow silvercontent mark below the catch (800).

Cross appears unworn but nicely patinated. The pin was very stiff to open as well.

It took me a while to find one with the umkarton for a decent price, but finally I found one.

Perhaps something interesting for new collectors to see.
Both cases made by Schwarz, but different. Both have a wood skeleton and purple/deep blue velvet inlet.

The left case is the early-/mid-war case by Schwarz of leatherette (Greenish black in colour) and is a slightly wider and a bit higher than the case on the right.

The case on the right is the earliest model of award issued cases for the EK1 (as far as I'm aware). It's as well made by Schwarz, but it's smaller in size than the later one. The case is more red black in colour and the outside made of leather(!) instead of leathertte.


Both have a Golden EK1 printed on the lid.

These differ from the later 1917 and 1918 made paper/cardboard based cases, as cases were later in the war ordered to made cheaper as well as the EK's.

Thanks Trevor for the nice words I finally made this picture where I could compare the cases to the public and perhaps be able to give a few hints to someone who is wondering if their cases from Schwarz are leather or leatherette.
