    Please Identify: Imperial sleeve shield?

    Does anybody know what this is? I bought a vet lot this past Saturday and this was one of the items. It appears to be Imperial German and is marked "Paul Meybauer Berlin" on the back. I'd like to know, roughly, what its value is as well.

    Shooting Prize

    Hi Chris, this is a Kaiser Shooting Prize. They were awarded annually for Rifle and artillery, hence the date. Winner's were allowed to sew it on the upper right sleeve of the uniform for one year.
    The bulk of these were made by Juncker in Berlin, Not Paul Meybauer. Could we please see a sharp photo of the maker mark? I've seen these marked for Juncker and un-marked... but never a PM one.
    The shields have been reproduced.

      As Rick stated, this is an infantry Kaiser-Schiess-Auszeichnungen. Starting in 1895, the "best" company in a infantry regiment competed against other "best" companies in the remaining infantry regiments in a particular Armeekorps. Hence the award was for Unteroffizeiren and Mannschaften in the best company in the specific Armeekorps and most, but not all, Amreekorps had these annual competitions. Yours is an initial award for 1904 and subsequent awards for subsequent years would be added with dated ribbons around the oak laurels.

        Kaiser-Abzeichen from 1895 to 1902 had seperate dates for multiple awards attached below and inside the award wreath. The use of additional award dates engraved on the wreath of the badge began in 1902. There were also Konigsabzeichen which were the same award and badge but used a royal crown instead of the Kaiser Crown. These were awarded by Bavaria and Saxony. Awards were also given to Jager and Machine-gun units and were of different design. Awards to the Navy were also made. So, if you want a price range, IMO, yours would be in the $100-125 range if in excellent condition with back plate etc. Hope this is useful.

          Somewhere around here I have a list of what units won in he different years, if anyone is looking for specific info. I think I have a list of the ships that won the Kaiserliche-marine version of the Kaiser-Prize somewhere too..... Tony
