I wanted to ask if I was reading this correctly , a friend sent me a picture to ask (sorry for the blurry pic)

they are marked 169.R. and 8.31

169th Regiment? but what does 8.31 mean please?

a US marine capture I believe

yes it is from Infantry-Regiment Nr. 169, 8th (or H) company, 31st binocular.

N.B.: Nice piece, bino and case are not rare but you do not often find them with regimental markings.

yeah my friend brought them as they had the markings and inscription in the lid, thank you for your answer too
