          Hello Mike. Yes, the badge has a silver finish. I`m not a chemist but it seems a problem of alloy of the gilding. I have seen several submarine-badges from ww2 too, which has a silver finish. Weitze in Hamburg has such pieces too for sale from ww2.

            I thought mine was a bronze material. It isnt gilted I do not think.
