The price is a personal question, in my opinion these
badges are still underrated, specially when you compare them
with the third reich badges. Some versions are more common and demand much
higher prices.

It's hard for me to keep award numbers straight between estimated Pilot and Observer awards and then split the Prussian and Bavarian numbers within those, but the Prussian Pilot awards alone were much fewer than Third Reich Knights Crosses! I seem to recall that Bavarian Observer awards were less than Third Reich Oakleaves.

I would also think the average pilot would have 2 pilots badges, maybe more for some men. A man who could afford silver and a walking out uniform would certainly have multiple Pilot badges and EK1s if he was awarded an EKI. Having been in the military I know it's common for the man who likes to look good and proud of his accomplishments to acquire multiples of badges, etc. And, the longer in service the more items bought as ranks and physical size of the person changes over time.
I never reused ribbons when having another ribbon bar made. If I earned a new medal I purchased all new ribbons. Conversely, I know people who wouldn't buy anything. If it wasn't given to then they wouldn't buy one.

I believe that the .800 silver examples were in fact the award piece for the reasons and based on the evidence that I have raised in several earlier threads. I also think that many if not most all flyers wore their award badges while flying as a good luck or superstitious talisman type of thing. Many many surviving silver badges show this kind of wear, almost no stamped plated pieces do.

Hard to say about how many badges a typical flyer might own, but I would think that his single award would be the norm with some having a spare. I do know that most Germans during both world wars, including officers were much more frugal and austere that American military in modern times.

I have a study published about 40 years ago where several dozen knights cross bearers were surveyed as to how many RKs they owned during the war. Almost all owned only one and the few who had 2 pretty much wore their award cross.
