Imperial sword question.

Hello, I thought this was a nice sword until I saw the German eagle and swastika. This has to be a post war etch, any comments otherwise. Best, Bill Bourque

Hi Bill,

Not quite sure what you are asking here. The lion head artillery sword is quite a common officer sword for both the Imperial and TR era. Imperial swords were also worn in the TR-period usually by older officers but sometimes also by younger, traditionalist ones who wore Dad's old sword as a family heirloom. As for it being a post war etching - if this is an Imperial sword than it could be a post-WWI etching but I do not see why this could not be a post-1918 manufactured sword with a period eagle etching on it, or possibly an Imperial made sword that remained in stock but was sold in the TR-period. I do not think this is an original period sword (but) with a post WWII etching on it. Although not a sword expert IMO it is a TR period sword with period etching.

Agreeing with the earlier posters, Imperial style hilts are seen in TR era catalogs, with the choice of grip material an indicator that it's a post WW I manufactured saber. FP

Nice early TR era saber.
The robust lionhead looks to be a Horster pattern if memory serves me right. This style lionhead hilt was also marketed under the 'Baron' trademark.
These early swords sometimes had a separate TR adler attached on the langet before companies started to incorporate that design in the langets.
