I can not tell you by looking at the pictures if it's the real deal or
not but having seen these pop up on ebay every now and again, I

Can you explain to me your statement easier. English is not my mother tongue ... was there now something meaningful thereby which can enrich the theme?

You can somehow prove your statement, some link or similar ... the kernel comes from an old Berlin household and not from ebay or any dealer

This is what I have saved in my reference folder as Grand cross 1870 made in 1914. Looks very similar. Maybe it helps.

I think it looks just fine. My problem with it is this----

The 1870 grand cross is rare. Very very few examples are known to
exist, yet somehow we see these cores show up on ebay from time to time.
It could be real, it could be fake. How will we ever know for sure.

In Heydes book there's a similiar GK, 1870 but the cross details in the Heyde book are quite poor. It has a chance IMO, but I'd need/prefer to see an original in crisp cast core to be able to compare better.

Until I have better reference pictures of an original award-piece 1870 GK, I an't really give a valid opinion.
