It was commonly seen on the Eastern front, as these are what most Russian peasants (and those of other eastern populations) used as daily utensils. The Germans liked them as useful souvenirs. I have an Ersatz WWI Russian ammunition pouch that came with one of these spoons inside. Though I think they were popular souvenirs, it would be pure speculation to guess how many have survived, but my guess is....not many.
