But, this is probable...
Because of the height of the 2 clips on the 3 & 4 ribbons, we're probably dealing with missing second class crosses, and probably no swords, but maybe with??. What's really unusual here is that the EK2 is mounted ahead of the Saxon Awards. A Native Saxonian would have worn his own Kingdom's awards ahead of the EK2. Rick L, Daniel??? Any plausible explanation for this? What have I missed?

But, was I....
...right about it probably being a knight's cross, second class of both, that is missing, based upon the height of the clip? If that's the case, it will be difficult to complete the bar. The Albert Order 2, no swords, shows up infrequently, but it does show up. I have only seen one VO, 2.kl., no swords, of the correct (or any for that matter) era! Exceedingly rare award!

Hi,
first of all, the so called "civil merit order" had this name from 1815 to 1849, as the St.Henry was the only military order. In 1849 the statutes changed and the new name was only "Verdienstorden" (order of merit) and it became a general order, not only awarded to civilians. From 1866 it was also awarded with swords.
As the "Albert" was instituted, Saxony had now 2 general orders, but generally the Albert was mostly given first. Only if somebody had already the Albert in the class his rank required, he could get the merit order as second award.
For example, if a first lieutenant earned a decoration, he got the Albert knight 2nd class, for a second merit he got the merit order knight 2nd class.
So, the bar; as Rick says in perfect Saxon regulations when the 2 Saxon Orders were peacetime ones. Otherwise the EK would follow after the Saxon war orders. I see a NCO´s long service award, so maybe the Albert and merit CROSSES would be right on that bar; but the heigh of the clips???
Best regards
Daniel
