    Wurttemberg Medal

I was hoping for some opinions on this medal. Is it silver vergoldet or just silver with a gold-ish patina?

    Thanks.

An good question, initially I thought dirty, patination. Closer inspection makes me think the same but I can see why you would ask, I would have too.

Looking at the highest (i.e. most worn) areas like moustache, ear or eyebrow, I would say it is copper/alloy versilbert (silvered) catching greenish patina.

this is a kind of very good one (you can get them for ~ 600 - 1000 EUR)https://www.numisbids.com/n.php?p=lot&sid=369&lot=2314

It looks like an old and worn coating of varnish which is often used so no polishing is needed. The only problem with varnish is that it turns that lovely shade of yellow. The rate at which it yellows is dependant on the climate and how much light it gets. Major users of varnish on medals are/were the British , but I have seen a few German medals. If it's varnish , smile because at least it wasn't replated.
