Colin, as long as you don't add any other medals I don't think anyone will have a problem with that.
I presume you have helmets from either side in the same room as well??

IMO it's not distastefull or so, frankly I quite like it.

    Regards,
    Ben

      Hello Blindpew,

Imo, nothing wrong with it except that the belt buckle looks to be a post WWI Stahlhelm piece. Maybe if you replaced the buckle with say an example of an Imperial German and British Regimental shoulder cypher, with or without or straps respectively it may look a tad more of the immediate period.

Interestingly your mention of alluding to appropriatness is something that was more of a an issue with how the actual veterans of the time came to eventual terms with there war experiences. Certainly veterans did keep various war trophies in the house...except for the old tin which was often the final resting place where the veteran would put such items regardless of what side of the front it came from. Would any have placed there former enemies medals next to there own in a formal display case? Not sure about that one.

      Regards

        Hallo,

If I may put my cents on the table...

Well I would not do that - I mean put together German and Alliance medals. Why? I think they don't pass to each other. I consider the decorations not only as a metal pieces but rather AWARDS for the actions and sacrifice of people who took part in the conflicts in the past..

If You now consider that i.e. Polish (Forces in the West) Cross of Valor earned for a bloody and hopless combat in 1939 and compare it to EK (I or II) that could have been earned by SS soldier in Warsaw Getto... You will see that there is something wrong with putting them together.

The same story is for the WWI period. The EK was a symbol of evil for those who fought againts it. Much blood had been spilled to earn EK or adequate Alliance medal. This blood and sacrifice of that people need to be respected... If You had asked the soldiers who wore these awards about potting them together - they wouldn't have been pleased much, I think.

But..It is only my privat opinion I wanted to share - that's it

A the end I would like to underline that this post has no criticism - someone's display is a private thing - everyone puts items as he/she likes. THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH THAT

              Hi Colin,

I'm kind of with Tomasz on this one. I had a long note on this subject but I deleted it and I'll keep it short. If it were me I'd go one of two ways with your display. One way would be to make an informal "WWI time period" box by adding some buttons, pins, etc. regardless of nationality. If I was making a display of mostly medals I'd separate them by country or Allies / Central Powers.
