Has this been done before here?

I am relatively new to the "Imperial" medal thing but I am hopelessly addicted now. One of my shortcomings is that I am not "up" on the ten zillion awards that were given out by everyone (i.e Bavaria, Prussia, etc)...

Is there a thread started here or could we start one with say individual awards, what they were awarded for, and when, etc...?

Would that be a good thing?

    Would be a good thing...

You are requesting a monster project considering not only all the states and all the awards but the various grades and embellishments.

Wonderful place for you to start is Dave Danner's site which gives great insight into this subject. See link below.

      Hi,

If You type WWI Medals (Decorations) on the web You may find the awards history, criteria, and sometimes even the whole recipients lists!

Such a gigantic project .. Well if there will be enough people willing to do so..why not?

      We say in Poland:

If something can not be done, go and find someone who doesn't know about it - he will come and do it

          Hi Okrach,

Perhaps I did not express myself clearly - my point was that the task is large and the internet is full of information of dubious quality.

We have a respected member of this forum who has done us all a great service by providing what has been requested on his site. Why would we try to supercede his excellent work. I recommend that you go there and see how well this question has already been answered by Dave on his continually expanding website.

To attempt to replicate Dave's efforts would be redundant, counterproductive and a bit of an insult to Dave in my opinion.

I would recommend that folks use his site as the wonderful resource that it is and if there is additional information needed that you have - contact Dave and offer it to him for addition to his work.

I am taking liberties in suggesting this as I have not consulted with Dave but I sense that his interest is to provide reliable information to the interested public - not ego. Check him out!

Andeas too has wonderful information but Dave's site more directly answers the question asked.

            Hi W McSwiggan,

Well, I have been there already - Great site indeed.

However as an Engineer I always check at least three sources - a kind of job deviation
