    Serif vs. Non serif Oaks

    Hi guys,

I've been reading old threads and keep coming across references to serif and non serif oaks. I know what the dictionary definition of a serif is but not clear on how it applies to a set of oaks for the 1870 EKII. I also note that there was controversy some years ago as to the authenticity of the non serif version but that seems to have subsided with the conclusion that both are authentic.

Can someone explain the difference or point me to what I should be looking at on oaks to clarify this matter?

    Thanks,
    Stu

That is not an easy question to answer as there are some non-sarif oaks
that are good. There are over 20 known variants of the 1895 Oaks.

Someone over at the GMIC forum took the time to study period pictures
and examples of Oaks mounted on 1870 medalbars and came up with a
    good list of oakleaf variations.
    Check your PMs.
