Looks authentic so far but we really need better photos.

The maker should be HOSSAUER, not HOFSANER.

If the order is original, gold, hollow and correctly marked, and if it's really a Hossauer, the set should be worth about $2500 - 2750. But this piece does not appear to be a Hossauer, but a Zehn piece, to me.

Johanniter Rechtsritterkreuze are not the most valuable Prussian orders -- in fact a WWI-era Zehn example can usually be had for about $1500 (uncased) or so, even in superb condition. A great WWI-era case is worth maybe $350. But Hossauers are the most desirable (far more desirable than the more common, and later, Z-marked Zehn pieces) and command a hefty premium. Hossauer was effectively out of business (having been bought by Sy und Wagner) before WWI. Therefore any orders from this jeweler are early and uncommon.

Again, your piece looks to be a Zehn to me. The case seems to be consistent with that also: a WWI-era case commonly seen with Z Rechtsritterkreuze. A Zehn piece will be marked with a Z in the lower cross arm, just in the crook of the arm at 6 o'clock.

Gold orders are 99.9% made HOLLOW! Otherwise much more gold would have been necessary (not economical) and the decorations would have been quite heavy...

                      Best, Peter

It means a difference in period of manufacture, quality and value.

Yours, a cased Z, is worth about $1750-2000. Of course this piece varies a lot depending on the buyer and seller.

A cased HOSSAUER would be worth considerably more.
                            Best regards,
