    Paul Meybauer 1914 1st class

Hi, I have just bought this EK and I got a couple of comments from some friends that it is not a Paul Mehbauer, it is a parts made. So to be fair with the dealer,
I wish more opinions about this cross before I decide to turn it back.
The back of the cross is marked 800 but the nut isn't.
    Thank you for any feedback.

Ok, I tried to do some comparison with a photo of Paul Maybauer that I am sure it is good One.
Also I look up into The Iron Cross First Class Book page 122 and I noticed a bit of difference, not much. on the right is the good cross.
The main points I noticed is the W and the date as seen in the phoo, so does this difference make my EK not a Paul Meybauer ?
    Thanks
    Alf

      Hi Alf,

both cores, slanted W (as you show here) and the "Godet" core are used in Meybauer eks, at least I had both in a Meybauer marked ek1.

However I don't associate this frame with Meybauer.

Here is one I previously owned with the Godet core. Please compare the frames.

          Hi Alf,

Your cross is not a Meybauer in my opinion, but it is a known type.

It's hard to know exactly who made it or when. I've seen many like it and they are often misattributed to Meybauer. I wouldn't call it a fake: more like a later cross made during a time (Weimar, or perhaps the later 1930s) when parts were shared widely between makers and governmental oversight of the manufacture of orders was virtually nonexistent.

If you really want a Meybauer, you should get another cross. But if you're happy with a cross that's likely period, from an unknown maker, then this one is fine.
          Best regards,
          Streptile

Thank You Streptile, I think that is the answer in a nut shell, others told me that the frame is not a Meybauer and you confirmed it.

PS: If you compare this one in hand to a Meybauer, you will notice a difference in the quality between the two.

                Here is a Meybauer:
