Medal Bar EK1, Lippe Cross, Flanders Cross and Hindenburg

    Hello all,

I got this really neat medal bar at the Max Show. I never have seen a Flanders medal before and think it is really nice with the Imperial Naval Jack flag in the middle...

    I just wanted to share.

    Thank you,
    Scott

To me, one of the nicest looking of the Weimar-era veteran's medals. I think it had a strong influence on the Hindenburg Cross.

Very nice bar. The three of them are very similar.
Looks like the ek must have broke off at some point?
Doesn't affect the beauty of it tho.

Nice, but the Flanders-Kreuz is not on the right ribbon. This one is of Kyffhäuser-Medaille.

        regards

Sorry Tomasz, but I must disagree.

Correct. The ribbon on the medal bar is for the Kyffhäuser-Denkmünze. The Flandernkreuz has obviously been stuck on there, by mistake. In any event, I have my doubts about this bar. I think it has been put together. With these type of mounting plates, it would be easy to do. Both the Kyffhäuser-Denkmünze and the Flandernkreuz were disavowed in 1934 and although it happened sometimes, generally shouldn't be mounted with a Frontkämpferkreuz (Hindy).

I have seen many anomalies where a ribbon that was "close enough" was used for an order or medal, especially after the war.
              Best regards,

Of course, you're correct that this happened. But, both these decorations were well-known and common and I doubt that their particular ribbons would be mixed up, as the ribbons would have been easily available. If this group was mounted by a tailor, for example, he would have ordered the medal and it most likely would have come with the proper ribbon in its envelope. I also think it's less likely after 1934 that there would have been a mix-up, especially here, as this group, if legit would have been a remount of the recipient's existing medals. I don't have a problem, so much with the unauthorized vet medal still being mounted with the Hindy. This happened, especially when the owner was no longer actively serving. I just think that the simple answer is that either a Flandernkreuz was recently put on by mistake to replace a missing medal. Or, the group has been totally put together recently by someone lacking knowledge.

This type of bar is the easiest to ascertain if it has been played with. It would be reasonable to assume an un messed with example would have no sign of "wear" or markings on the metal clips for each medal on the reverse, even a very careful attempt at unbending them will leave evidence of interference, multiple attempts will become very obvious. Draw any conclusions on this or any other similar types from those metal clips, but not this alone.
