    Ribbon bar question

am-militaria (Linz, Austria) is not mentioned in this honor role yet, although he/she has a separate thread:

    http://dev.wehrmacht-awards.com/foru...t=am-militaria

I'm mentioning as they dropped a load of ribbon bars on ebay that look pretty convenient at first glance, most likely made from original ribbons AND devices, but the combination on this one is absolutely unbelievable (at least for me - highly decorated officer, proud Bavarian, but no bavarian bravery awards???). Please correct me if I'm wrong.

I understand what you are saying about the medal bars but I can tell you that this particular ribbon bar comes from an old US collection that was recently auctioned off. There was a nice Saxon ribbon bar in there too. I left them go as I was not happy with the condition and there were other items I wanted more. In this case I will say that the seller did not make these.

Notice the bar in the first picture on the right of the second row seems to an earlier bar to the same person.

CRBerry, thanks for additional pic and info! As I said, the condition and materials of the bar looks good, but the combination is (was) way too weird for me.

Anyone has an explanation for such a combination of awards?

The second bar on the second picture is also very interesting and one I would like to know more about. I cannot answer your question on the second but agree that to me it's a very odd set up.

Agree, a very nice bar but the same bothers me: beside Saxony, bravery awards, several in officers class from EIGHT other states, but NO long service ribbons? Could it be a brave pilot/submariner with no military or civil career before WW1? If it could be a staff officer or higher nobility, there will be long service and/or peace time decorations.

I was thinking again about the first bar (and yes, there's what looks like earlier of the same person ...) - a Bavarian very proud of his civil career of postman/school inspector (St. Michael order 3/4th class), who did many brave deeds in WW1 asd a reserve officer, but no recognition from his own state? Bavarian military merit order could be officers cross (pinback) or 1/2nd class (neck), but those were only for colonels/generals. He cannot be a reserve general (without previous active service)? If it would be, where's landwehr long service award? And why Hamburg hanseatic cross on last place, after Bulgarian award and some mediocre weimar unofficial award? And how this brave frontline fighter got prussian war effort medal?

I wish late Rick Lundstrom would be there...

The ribbon is for Hamburg, Turkish halbmond has additional red stripe at ends:

                    https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eiserner_Halbmond

I think Turkish halbmond ribbons were common enough in Germany that bar makers wouldn't need to use a "close enough" replacement.

I would not discount it. The tailor could have easily made a mistake. The wearer probably wouldn't notice.
