Mystery EK1 Mark?

I heard the asterisk called a 'stern punkt" denoting a silver base on a gilt piece.

My understanding of the mark is that denotes the piece is not made from precious metal but is tombac.

Zimmermann was not based in Austria so if what you write is true then the cross cannot be made by Zimmermann.

I appreciate your input. Do you remember where you found this information? The front of the frame looks to be silver, but the reverse backplate has a very odd color to it. It has not oxidized like you see on most EK's, but rather looks like case hardening or an oil slick with an odd toning. The cross core and frame look very high quality. You may be right on the mark. Has anyone else see the mark?

I would have read it here most likely. Could be good quality silver plate but without testing it very hard to say.

Regardless, it is a beautiful and desirable cross.

Could be but then why don't the silver items have the mark too?

Because the awards in Austria not made out of fine metals (silver/gold) are marked this way as well.
