    meybauer...maybe?

A good friend that knows I have a soft spot for imperial badges stumbled in this in an antiques market...only have those two pics for now.
To my untrained eyes a good Meybauer but would like to see what you guys think of it.
    regards

        Hi Mario!
"Dedicated in friendly memory to his dear (girl)friend Ger... [-tu? -ti ?] by her thankful Gerhard Römml..(?), Berlin d. 14.07.17"
And yes: This looks like a textbook silver Meybauer badge to me.
Although collecting these myself, I would not pay as much for it - engraved or not...
        Regards

A badge like this worth about 1000 USD without any engrave.
Engraved badges tells a story and give us a view to the person who hold it. For me this makes a piece more interesting than a anonymous one.

I think this increase the value of this piece, if the engrave is original.

But there are collectors who don't care about history behind a piece and are only interested on metall. I don't want to affront somebody, just to notice that there are different views on this piece.

I would say 1200-1250USD is a fair price.

          Kind regards
          Alex

              Hi Alex!
Good point, there: It's a well known way of "pimping" a common badge with engravings, just to pretend "a story" - the information needed can easily be collected in the net.
(I think this one is good, though...)
And I know a lot of fellow collectors who judge an engraving as an alteration/ damage to the original issue - a point of view that I personally don't share.
Whether an engraving is worth another 250 bucks should everyone decide for himself....especially if the badge has not been worn by the recipient but was a giveaway as a sweethearts charme.
I think this badge would be payed well with appr. 1000 $, beeing a scarcer silver example - unless one wants to pay the prices the notorious dealers are charging on their sites (even without the engraving...)
              Regards

I would actively encourage those collectors to inform me immediately when they find these badges for sale.

That's an odd way of looking at the badge. And who says he didn't wear this badge, or any other badge that was engraved from a sweetheart to her pilot beau. The whole reason they bought these medals/awards/badges was for use.

                  Hi

I do think that Römmler was an very experienced pilot who had served on the Macedonian front in 1916. He was apparently "living" in Berlin in 1918.
So why did he in-script it in 1917 when he apparently had received his badge more then a Year earlier ? Maybe he found a girlfriend in Berlin..
Anyway if they sell his logbook or similar it would be of historic value for people like me

                    Interesting points of view, here!
I still believe, the engraving means that he gave this silver badge to his girlfriend to show his gratefulness (for whatever...) - not vice versa - and that he bought it especially for that purpose.
He was a very young man in his 21st year then - I really don't think he had that badge engraved to wear it himself!
